Cliveden, Aristocracy & The Rural Thames
Lady Astor: If I were your wife, I’d put poison in your tea!
Churchill: Madame, if I was your husband, I would drink it!
Allegedly, the above conversation happened between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor, the first female MP who took her seat in Parliamnet and lived in Cliveden, one of the country’s most visited stately homes in Buckinghamshire.
We start the day at Cliveden where you can learn the subtle history of the house (where Meghan Markle spent her night before the wedding) and hear stories about the life of the English aristocracy – from lavish parties to scandals and rivalries. You will have time to discover the estate and enjoy the beautiful views of the Thames Valley.
We then go to a quaint village where you can have a delihtful lunch in an authentic English inn.
Continuing our trip, you can walk in Thames Valley villages where you can take in the beauty and ambience of the rural Thames whilst learning about its history.
Finishing off the day with tea/coffe and cake at a quirky English place.
